Who can submit books?

Books can be submitted by the author, publisher or the Bi Writers Association (BWA). However, anyone may suggest a book for us to outreach. POC authors are especially encouraged to submit. Trans/non-binary and male authors are also encouraged to submit. We are always seeking more diversity.

What books can be submitted?

• Any book with a bisexual/pansexual/fluid or bi+ character, bisexual or pansexual storyline, bisexual/pansexual subject matter or bisexual/pansexual themes.
• The book award categories are open to all authors regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
• Books should be first published in print in 2022.
• Books should be published in English.
• Books must be published in print: not only e-book format.
• Print-on-Demand counts as "in print."
• Single short stories are not eligible.

When can books be submitted?
Submissions for BBA11 (books of 2022) are open now: judges will begin reading books sometime in the Fall. The submission deadline for BBA11 is Dec 2nd extended to Dec 31, 2022!!! Contact us to submit. (We will provide an extension for books going into print in December, if you notify us before, or on, the deadline.)

Judging
A panel of judges will decide each category. Books are judged on three main criteria: 

• Quality of overall writing
• Quality of writing about bi+/bisexual/pansexual/fluid characters, bisexual/pansexual themes or bisexual/pansexual material
• Quantity of bisexual/pansexual material

Finalists
Finalists for BBA11 will be chosen in each category by the judges. There will be approx 5 or 6 finalists per category--the number of finalists in a category can vary depending on the number of books submitted to that category and the number of books that the judges find deserving. The number of finalists in a category should not exceed approx. 50% of the titles submitted. But in the case of an uneven number of submissions in a category we would allow 6 finalists in a catagory with 11 submissions or 3 finalists in a category with 5 submissions. Finalists will be announced in the Spring. 

Winners
Winners are chosen by judges and will be announced at the Bisexual Book Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled for June or July date TBA. Our event will be virtual again this season so that performers and audience can join us from anywhere in the world. Instructions for watching will be published on our website and socials some time in May/June/July. 

How to submit?
1. Contact the Bi Writers Association with book listing in this format: 

book title, author name, imprint/publisher; first year of print publication, # of pages and what category you intend to submit to; then request a submission form.

Example: Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, St. Martin’s Griffin / Macmillan; 2019, 418 pgs, Romance

2. Fill out and return submission form via email attachment, also attaching one PDF copy of the book for the judges + a front book cover photo + an author headshot-both in hi def.

3. Pay the $35 USD contribution per book submission (instructions are on the submission form.) 

4. Send one copy of the physical book to the Bi Writers Association (address provided on the submission form.)

What are the fees? There is a low $35 contribution to submit a book, to defray our costs of operation. There is only one fee per book, even if it is submitted to multiple categories. You are always welcome to increase your contribution to help defray our costs for this website, printer ink, paper, electricity and our awards ceremony expenses.

What are the categories?
Categories (below) will be used, created or unused, depending on the number of books in each category. There should be a minimum of 3 books in a category for that category to be used. (If it is a rarely used category we have occasionally allowed 2 books.) If your primary category isnt available, it will be put into the next most appropriate category. Books can be submitted to multiple categories, except Romance & Literary Fiction. If Romance is not your primary category, your book will not be entered into Romance. Literary Fiction also stands alone because it is not genre fiction.

Bi Book Publisher of the Year 
Awarded by the BBA to the press who publishes & submits a large number of bisexual books in the awards year. Total numbers of books submitted, quality of books and publisher degree of support to their authors are all considered in deciding this award. 

Bi Writer of the Year 
Awarded to an openly bi+/bisexual/pansexual/fluid/bi-romantic (or anything else in the bisexual ballpark) author of a bisexual/pansexual book or editor of a bisexual/pansexual anthology. 

Our Call for Submissions for the Tenth Annual Bisexual Book Awards (BBA10) will go out in the Fall. In the meantime, early submissions for books published in 2021 can be submitted in Summer after June 15th.

Judges are currently reading and deliberating on the books. Voting will take place late March. Finalists will be announced in April. Winners will be announced at our (Virtual) Bisexual Book Awards Ceremony and Multi-Arts Reading in NYC on Sat June 12th at 7pm.

Submissions are open now and will close on Jan 3rd. We strongly encourage you to submit your book right away as our judges are already reading books.

Judging
